Hutchinson City Compost & Recycling Facility - Tipping Building & Office
This 3-unit building consisted of a small office,
a 6,000 SF tipping area, and a 6,000 sq. ft. processing area (lower
unit). The tall unit is the tipping floor where waste haulers drop
their rubbish. Once the rubbish has been dumped they separate the
compostable material from the other garbage. The compostable material
is pushed into a pit with a conveyor and transported into a big
mixing drum where it is mixed with other compostable products such
as wood chips. After the material has been thoroughly mixed it is
conveyed into containers and transported outside to begin the composting
cycle. The separated garbage is then hauled to the landfill.
Unique Challenges:
- 36 acres of site work consisting of major soil correction and storm sewer project.
- Architectural and engineered plans began late August 2000.
- Approximately 50,000 SF of concrete paving installed Fall 2000
- Constructed project during Winter of 2000-01 (one of the heaviest snowfalls in recent history)
- Raske met the contract schedule by having the Bagging Building operational within 6 months & the Tipping Building operational within 7 months.

Hutchinson City Compost & Recycling Facility - Bagging Building
The bagging building is designed to convey the compost inside the building into an automated bagging system. Once the product is bagged it is then sent into the cold storage warehouse ready for shipment.
